Rashi and Divisional Charts
Jai GurudevHave you wondered what divisional charts are and how they really work?
Well, for you to understand them, you need to grasp the sign first — the rashi. The divine being says the only purpose of rashi is to provide the quality of space, that is, the quality of marble inside a house. For example: Saturn in Pisces sign is like giving out ill intention, which is totally wrong, as when you give out, it is without selfishness.
Similarly, if Rahu is in Leo, it is like inside the palace a clown is ruling, and Jupiter in Gemini is like a very knowledgeable person going to nursery class. So now, as Sir says and other great authors affirm, the only function of the sign is providing the marble — the sthan where the event is going to take place. It has nothing to do with being good or bad. If exalted, the event will be done smoothly. If debilitated, it will happen with difficulty or tears. That is the only reason the Rishis created awasthas of planets based on signs.
In Jyotish, there is nothing as good or bad. There is only your karam, which you have to complete, and for that to happen you need sthan.
Since you now know how a planet works in own, neutral, and enemy signs, the necessity to use sthanbal from software will be reduced, as now you can calculate it manually.
And now comes the most important aspect of Jyotish:
When a Rishi says you have to add something, you shouldn’t add it directly but think first about why he is saying to add those things in the first place. Just think why he is actually saying something is good or bad in the first place (as described using sthan bal). Now, the basic rule of Jyotish says: the higher the divisional chart we go, the smaller and more detailed the prediction will be. Anyone can predict using bad combinations or powerful ones. The better Jyotishi is the one whose minute predictions are precise. For example, there is a case study on Lunar Astro of twins differentiated using D60.
Similarly, to see nimits we can use D60. Like in the Leo lecture, Sir says the 5th house shows the environment. Actually, he is focusing on D60 but using it for D1 to make students comfortable. Because 2 hours will be too big of a time span. Though we can use it if a planet is there at the ascendant degree.
Now, after telling you all these basics, I will give you something with an example of what I really want to say but am unable to form in words:
2nd house shows family: D1
2nd lord shows what the family did eventually: D1
Now we will use the 2nd lord of D1 in divisional charts:
In D3, it shows efforts. Like Gemini to Gemini — the whole agenda was the native earning through trading, doing own ventures, being a middleman, preaching others, and family going nuclear very early after his birth. From Leo to Sagittarius, it shows many children of the family studied politics and spent a lot of time learning a specific mantra. All efforts were around teaching children and making them rise in life.
2nd lord in Navamsha shows the end result of what the family ended up doing. For example: from Scorpio to Sagittarius — many in the family were loners and didn’t like each other, but still at critical moments stuck together, even though they don’t talk much.
2nd lord of D7 shows the status of children of the family. Example: Aquarius to Leo — we can say from bad to good, after marriage in terms of character they became better, at least compared to their previous self. Though compared to Leo to Leo, they are far behind since the starting point is not the same.
Similarly, can’t we use divisional charts to check other things? For example, telling you the current family is a family of traders (Gemini). Long ago, your ancestors were travelers (D45 from father’s side, D45 from mother’s side). A few generations back, use D9 for father, D4 for mother.
Moreover, you can see a similar pattern of higher divisional charts in the lower ones. For example, if D45 shows your ancestor was a traveler, minister, or teacher, then even in the current generation someone will be there who at least taught people. The stronger the combination, the better or more long-lasting the teacher will become. But at some point in life, someone will become a teacher to fulfill his ancestor’s karam.
In a similar pattern, D60, D24, D12 can be used, and for thinking patterns, D3, D9, D27 can be used. For example, to see from which karam of yours the desire to eat something comes into your mind as a thought, and which one truly gets manifested.
But don’t get stuck to this method only. Try and think what I am unable to write. Like: Sun in Capricorn in D1 and Sun in Aries in D45 — then earlier, one of your ancestors was in an authority position. Since it is in your DNA, its sthan bal is getting added, as now that ancestor’s experience, support, and punya will be there in whatever form it manifests. That is why earlier Brahmins were so focused on being Brahmins.
PS
Thank you lunar astro team for providing me place to write I was thinking of doing this from few weeks then I got your mail
